The Saint Francis Phoenix football team punched above its weight last season, making it all the way to the Niagara Catholic Athletic Association championship game before falling 20-18 to the five-time defending champion Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Despite losing a number of key players to graduation — including starting quarterback Cam Mepham and all-world receiver Trent Dobson — Phoenix head coach Joe Lentini is still aiming high.

“Our expectations are to do the same and get to the final. We are very hopeful of maybe even beating Notre Dame. We are going to study our film very well, especially Notre Dame’s, get to the final and exploit their weaknesses and maximize our strengths.”
